Drafts, autosave and previewing your listing

Your listing is saved as a draft as you write. How to find the draft again, view the listing as a buyer and edit a live listing without buyers seeing it.

A good listing for a business for sale is rarely written in one sitting. That is why Sitavo saves your changes automatically as a draft — both when you create a new listing and when you edit a published one. Buyers see nothing until you publish, and you can view the listing exactly as buyers will see it before you press the button.

How autosave works

While you fill in Create listing, the listing is saved on our server shortly after you stop typing. You can also tap Save draft at any time. The draft lives in your account, not in the browser, so you can close the window and continue later — even from another computer or your phone.

  • Uploads must finish before the draft is fully saved. Wait until images and documents no longer show “Uploading …”.
  • Missing fields do not stop you from saving. They are simply listed before you can publish.
  • If you create the listing with AI or through your own AI, the proposal also lands as a draft. Nothing is published automatically.

Find your draft again

  1. Go to Create listing. If you have a draft in progress, it appears at the top with Continue the draft.
  2. Or open My listings and choose the Drafts tab. All your drafts are there.
  3. Tap Continue the draft in the menu (…) next to the draft you want to work on.
  4. To get rid of a draft, choose Delete listing in the same menu. This cannot be undone.

Preview: see the listing as a buyer

Tap Preview in the guide to see the draft as the real listing page. Buy and offer buttons are disabled, so you can click around without starting anything. For a published listing, use View as buyer in the menu (…) under My listings.

  • Can a stranger understand what the business does, how it makes money and why you are selling?
  • Are the key figures in the title, the short description or the highlights?
  • Is the cover image sharp and relevant — and does it reveal no more than you want?
  • Do file names, images or text reveal your name, address or domain if you are selling discreetly?
  • Do the figures match the accounts and what is in the data room?

Edit a published listing

Tap Edit next to the listing under My listings — or Edit listing at the top of the listing page when you are logged in as the owner. Editing is split into steps with a preview alongside. Changes are saved automatically as a draft, and buyers see the published version until you publish the changes.

ButtonWhat happens
Publish changesAll changes become visible to buyers.
Discard changesThe draft is deleted, and you return to the published version.
Leave the pageThe draft stays. Next time you open the editor, you are told about unpublished changes.

At times Sitavo reviews changes before they become visible. You are told so in the editor. If you edit a listing while it is paused, it is sent for review when you reactivate it.

When a deal or bidding round is under way

During an ongoing deal and after a sale, most fields are locked, so the buyer can trust that what they bid on does not change. The title, images, tags and SEO can still be edited. During a running bidding round or auction the price cannot be changed, and a deadline with bids can only be extended. See Manage your listing.

Good habits with drafts

  • Write the figures first. Revenue, profit and price are what buyers look for. Once they are in place, the rest is easier to write.
  • Keep text you are unsure about in the draft — not in a separate document. That way everything is in one place and visible in the preview.
  • Edit the published listing rather than creating a new one. You keep the statistics, saves and followers. Only use Duplicate listing if you are selling a different business.
  • Publish changes in one go. Many small publications can mean several rounds of review in periods when Sitavo reviews changes.

Write for the buyer, not for yourself

Read the draft again the day after writing it. What is obvious to you as the owner is often exactly what a buyer is missing. Use the seller guide chapter on sales materials as a checklist.
