What do businesses sell for?

The list shows businesses sold through Sitavo or marked as sold by the seller, with category, region and time to sale — and revenue as a range when the seller had shown it publicly. The price is never shown after a sale: neither the asking price nor the agreed price, which is confidential between the parties.

Guides on the topic

Step-by-step knowledge that helps you make the right decision.

How to use businesses sold to set a priceFilter by your sector and region, and compare with businesses of your size.Finance
  • Filter by your sector and region, and compare with businesses of your size.
  • See which businesses of your size are being sold — but remember that profit and risk matter more than revenue.
  • Use the time to sale as a guide to how long you should expect.
  • Combine it with a valuation that uses your own figures and the sector’s multiples.
Why the price is never shownThe agreed price is a confidential agreement between buyer and seller, and it can be far from the asking price.Finance

The agreed price is a confidential agreement between buyer and seller, and it can be far from the asking price. If the list showed prices, individual deals could be identified, and that could affect the negotiation of new ones. So it shows sector, region, timing and revenue as a range, while aggregate price figures are only published anonymously in market data once they are based on at least five deals.

Sold through Sitavo, marked as sold and anonymised“Sold through Sitavo” means the deal was completed in Sitavo’s deal process.Guide

“Sold through Sitavo” means the deal was completed in Sitavo’s deal process. “Marked sold by seller” means the seller marked the listing as sold themselves, for example after a deal outside Sitavo. A seller can also choose to anonymise the sale afterwards — then only sector, region and timing are shown, and all figures are removed. Discreet sales only show what was also public on the listing. Listings that expired without being sold are in the archive.
