Childcare in Denmark generally requires approval from the municipality, and it is often tied to specific people, premises and a set number of children. Check which approval the business holds, who it is issued to and what a change of ownership requires. Contact the municipality early so you know whether you must apply yourself and how long it takes. Check also whether the business receives municipal subsidies and on what terms. Expect the process and documents to be in Danish.

Ask for the latest inspection reports from the municipality and any orders issued. Premises, playground and kitchen must meet requirements, and changes may need a new approval.

Staff and parentsStaff transfer on their existing terms, and they are the people parents know.Guide

Staff transfer on their existing terms, and they are the people parents know. Check that child protection certificates (børneattester) have been obtained for all employees and that qualifications and contracts are in order. Ask how long staff have been employed and whether key people will stay. Review parent agreements, notice periods and the waiting list, and agree how parents are told about the change of owner.

Sitavo’s indicative range for services is 2–4 times EBITDA, cross-checked against 0.3–1 times revenue. Full occupancy with a waiting list, stable staff and an approval that can continue without issues push the price up; uncertainty about approval or subsidies pulls it down.
